My favorite quote by Anais Nin has always been “And then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom”. I used it as a metaphor to give parents hope when their child was unresponsive to a particular learning strategy or unable/unwilling to grasp a concept. To go from a place of such hope and promise to the depths of sadness and the harsh truth in the words above is, well, painful. I guess the simple lesson is that everything and everyone needs nurturing to grow. On the Homefront and Beyond, above, made it realistically clear with “sometimes we have a poor memory”. That I think is the saddest truth.
I think sometimes our memories are convenient…there are times when it can be a challenge to nurture love, and it takes sheer will to ensure its care…xox
